If the driving experience has come down to gulping down food as you rush your kid to soccer practice, maybe we should just forget the whole thing. American markets cater to the lowest common denominator in almost every aspect of American culture. The average slob wants an SUV that handles like a buckboard and has plenty of room for his big gulp. Therefore, everthing detroit puts out must be top heavy, underpowered, and ugly as all get-out. Meanwhile, automotive enthusiasts are forced to chose among a shrinking selection of performers that are increasingly being judged by their ability to haul oversized beverages. Sorry, I had to get that out.
