I have a 95 318ti. I replaced the stock shifter with one from an MZ3 Roadster. This is probably the most dramatic shift throw decrease you can get in a a ti.

The decrease in the shift throw was AMAZING. The downside was that it REALLY increased the amount of effort needed to shift the car. I then installed the UUC ERK (Effort Reucing Kit) and it made a BIG difference. After having it in the car now for about a year I would NEVER go back.

The way I understand it is that the UUC Short Shift is essentially an MZ3 shifter that they bend, the ERK, and some Delron bushings.

My advice to you is to try the MZ3 shift in your car. If you find that the effort required to shift the car is too great, get the ERK kit from UUC.

The other thing is that with the unbent shifter the shifter will not sit in the console the way it does now. If that will bother you order the UUC kit.

If you want more info on the MZ3 shifter swap go to the 318ti archive and look for BL/SS Short Shift postings.
