Hi Jon,

my 4/97 2.8 had the same "compression rivet". I just reached under the lip of the parking break boot and stopped it spinning free with one finger while unscrewing with an alan wrench. I reused it rather than messing with getting the nut onto the underside with the new bolt that came with the armrest.

: I think I should hire Rachel to re-build my webpage. Your instructions kick ass! I have never seen the compression rivet that you had. Weird. BMW chages these things without any method to their madness.

: I am glad everything worked out for the 3 of you. If you ever have a problem, please let me know and I will take care of it for you. I will definitely add your pics to my website.

: Thanks again,
: Jon Maddux
