: : If this is true, then I wonder why Boxsters can out accelerate the Z3 2.8 0-60 and 1/4 mile (at least marginally, according to every road test I've seen).
: Not true for every test; I have seen at least half the tests that show the 2.8 as quicker. The auto 2.8 was more than .5 sec quicker than the Boxster auto when tested by the roundel. Anyway, the previous post was about horsepower, not about 0-60 times.
I've never seen road tests of the slower auto versions of each car, but all the "mainstream" US auto mags (Road&Track, Car&Driver, and MotorTrend) have tested the Boxster consistently (if not impressively) than the Z3 2.8. What other road tests are you referring to?
The reason for my post is that it seems like in most of these road tests, the Boxster demonstrates a 12hp advantage on the Z3 2.8, so I tend to believe the manufacturer's ratings (both BMW and Porsche). I don't know why the Tiptronic Boxster is slower, but then again, why is the MB SLK auto faster than the 5 spd version???
