"Gouge pricing" premiums paid above sticker are almost never recovered in resale value, unless the car is sold almost immediately. The S2000 is not a strictly limited edition, Honda's research simply indicated the demand would settle down around 5K units, and they will adjust that over time if it turns out to be way low. After all, they're in business to make money. They sure don't want this car to be languishing on dealer lots and selling below invoice, but they will eventually provide a supply that meets demand at around list or below at aggressive dealerships. And the people who paid over list will eat it. This has happened with every roadster including the Miata, Z3, SLK etc. and the S2000 will be no different.

: Honda is only bringing in 5000 a year. They did the same thing with the R Type Integra and the dealers were charging a $5000 premium. I saw a 98 R Type for sale in Houston today at $20,900. So the ? is dealer overcharging good for resale value if the manufactor limits the supply.
