Bruce,
You're not the least bit technically qualified to be making such statements, as such your comments smack of ignorant slander. As a mechanical engineer in the metal fabrication business, whether or not something looks beefy is totally immaterial to it's actual strength capacity. We routinely lift and move objects up to 20 tons with nothing more than sheetmetal tabs. It's all a matter of how the loads are distributed and transferred. Try applying your comments to an airliner and it would be so heavy as to never leave the ground. Ever see the film of Galloping Girdie, the Tacoma Bridge that swayed itself to destruction when the wind caused it to oscillate at it's natural vibration frequency? How beefy the bridge was had nothing to do with its strength. Proper engineering is responsible for the technical successes that have been achieved in our lifetime, not shooting from the hip with non-factual conjecture.
You're pretty knowledgable about a lot of BMW stuff, but you're out of your league discussing structural design. Those insinuating comments do both yourself and HMS a great disservice.
