Somewhere there's a list of all states with legislation against radar detectors. Maybe somebody knows the URL but as I remember there are only a few states with laws against them and in those states you can't have one period.

There's an obvious reason for "double fine" laws as applied to holidays, work zones etc. However, if you think about it double fines wouldn't even be a good idea to apply to radar detectors from a law enforcement point of view. To do so would give the perception that radar detectors must actually be effective at making speeders harder to catch, in a state where they are legal to possess. If you ask any cop in a state where radar detectors are legal, the "party line" is that people are stupid to use them because they don't work. To concede they do make it harder to catch speeders by imposing a double fine law might actually INCREASE sales of detectors!

: As a practical matter, you will not score any points with the officer, but radar detectors are legal in Texas, and I am not aware of any provision for increased fines, etc. Use that V1 with a good dose of common sense.
