My '96 used to feel somewhat twitchy near the limit when it was stock. Sort of like there was a weight transfer front to rear and back. The Racing Dynamics anti-sway bars took care of that very nicely.

Also some early '96s were fitted with incorrect height springs which caused problems until they correct springs were installed.

I don't know if BMW made changes to the 1.9s handling in later years.
