on a '97 or '98 but it will be a 2.8L if you want a 6-banger (2.3's came out in '99 to replace the 1.9 4-cyl while 2.8's have been out since '97). There are some differences in '00s (more than just the rear end styling "fanny lift") but most are minor with the only significant mechanical one I can think of being a more advanced stability control system. BTW you don't have to get the wood stuff if you don't like it since that's an option regardless of model year.
