: A strange thing happened yesterday.
: My 1999 Mster had been sitting for four days (four rainy, grey days). When I started it up, there was a loud rattling noise and the engine died. For about a minute it wouldn't restart. It would turn over merrily, but the engine wouldn't catch. Finally it started but ran real rough. I had to keep goosing the throttle to keep it running. It generated a lot of white smoke out of the tailpipe.
: This has happened once before, several months ago.
: I've already had the following replaced: ROM update, Oxygen sensor, crank angle sensor.
: I'm no mechanic, but this somehow felt like a fuel pump or fuel delivery problem. It's due to go to the dealer tomorrow. Any thoughts?
I talked to the service manager this morning. When I described the problem and told him that it was very intermittent (twice in three months) he said there was zero chance he could diagnose the problem. Although I basically agree with him, I was a little disappointed that they dragged me down to the dealership to tell me that.
His recommendation: keep driving until something really breaks, then call him.
