Last Sunday I applied 'StarBrite Waterproofing and Fabric Treatment' and the results were quite amazing. It looks almost like new - really good stuff. It took me 20-30 minutes and no problems at all. Only bad point is that you have to leave the top up for several hours to dry, hard to do in good weather. I let mine dry an hour then drove it with the top UP for a few more hours.
1. Buy 'StarBrite Waterproofing and Fabric Treatment'. I got mine from West Marine that cost $7.29/pt or $21.99/gal. No West Marine out in Arizona? Call them at 1-800-BOATING and have them ship it. In a previous post I said that I got a quart and used 3/4 of it. WRONG, I got a pint and used 3/4. The pint size has a spray applicator that is not useable on a car top. I poured the liquid into a disposable can and used a cheap disposable brush.
2. Wash theZ and dry it VERY good. I let mine set out in direct sun for an hour.
3. It would no doubt be better if you vacuumed the top before applying the StarBrite but I didn't.
4. Apply the StarBrite. It smells like a light hydrocarbon and as such I was careful not to get it on paint, leather or for that matter, the rubber gaskets. 5. I started with the top up but not latched so that I could get kinda under the rear rubber seal and under the front edge. I put it on as heavy as I could without spilling it off of the brush.
Did I forget anything? Naaa
