: Being a new driver, I've always insisted that I use my seatbelt, and my friends too. It turned out, that my seat belt came in use this Monday. I was driving to school going westbound. An elderly man going the opposite direction (eastbound) made a left turn without looking just as we were passing each other. I nailed the brakes, but only had 1.5-2 carlengths to stop. I didn't happen.
: Luckily, I escaped fine. No injuries. My Neon was a bit smashed. The accident was the other driver's fault (I was just driving down the road minding my own business), and he was cited by the officer. Unfortunetly, he is trying to lie to his insurance agent... Sh!t happens I guess. There was nothing that I could've done to avoid it, I couldn't go left (oncoming traffic) and I couldn't go right (curb and large telephone poles).

Sorry to hear about the accident and glad you are OK. About the other guy lying... on the way to HC98 I was rear ended by a van trying to pass me in the left lane... i was *in* the left lane so he went up on the grassy median. Failing that he drive into me. I had two witnesses. He lied and said I cut in front of him (right, there are 25 Z3s in front of me but i have to cut in front of a van?) anyway... his insurance company believed him, mine believed me and I lost the $500 deductible. They even said my witness lied. Stuff happens. As long as we can walk away from it, that's gotta be ok.
