: Wow, what a sad story to read about!
: I know there are pros and cons about wearing
: seat belts, but whenever I am driving (or being
: a passenger) my "baby" I buckle up.
: The only person who doesn't is my husband - he
: is too "uncomfortable" with it, but now when I
: show him your message maybe he will change his
: mind!! The only time he will wear it is if it
: is raining or if we do distance travelling, but
: you never know what could happen while driving
I wonder if there are any realistic cons to wearing a seatbelt. The only arguments I've heard which were in favor of not wearing them were the ones my uncle gave me, they are just absurd justifications for the fact that he doesn't want to wear his seatbelt. Which of course is his right. He mentioned getting strangled, trapped in a burning car, etc. If these do happen - which I doubt - I'll bet they're 0.001% of all accidents.
I'll just say this: Jan. 10th 1989 I skidded on ice and collided head on with another vehicle. We were both going about 35 mph. I was unhurt, the woman I hit - who thank God was wearing a seatbelt - suffered a broken sternum. My car (1977 Nova) was totalled, hers (1988 Topaz) was close.
How hard did we hit? My glasses flew off my head, struck the windshield, and bounced into the backseat. Imagine if that had been my head.
My $0.02 - if I'm driving the car we don't move until everyone is buckled up. No exceptions.
