I have had to repaint Emmy's bumper 3 times already. I am always reading about people getting hit, often in parking garages. Our cars are lower than most, and get wider below the sight lines. It really stinks, but its just they way of things.
As far as overreacting, that depends. Did you feel better or worse after freaking out? If it served you, fine, if it didn't maybe think twice about insulting the other driver next time.
About the body work, you'll get an estimate and figure out if its worth it to have insurance pay, since you will shell out the deductible anyway, if its just the bumper... lessee... last time I paid $550 and that included a whole car polish but both stunk. It's already been hit again so no point in taking it back.
Things you should know:
They have to sand down the bumper and use a special adhesive before they paint it
Get it done through your dealer, they will farm it out (unless they have an on site body shop) but at least you have the dealer to complain to if you don't like the work
Pay by credit card.

Good Luck and sorry you got hit!
