Shawn,

Have you noticed? I specially referenced 2.3'ers because the comments from 2.8'ers possess a curious & subtle difference.

A little context. We bought our 1.9 in June of '98. At the time, the 1.9's imminent departure from the US product lineup wasn't public knowledge & the ///MZ3 was just hitting the showrooms out here.

The comments that I then received from 2.8'ers were actually phrased in the form of a question, with the same basic message: "Is there any conceivable reason in the world, other the price differential among the two models, why you bought an 1.9?" Interestingly, my answer(s) were an immediate conversation stopper...Hehehe. (Go private, if you'd like to share stories.)

Having said that, ///M'sters, OTOH, seem to be more, er, benevolent. Straight line performance excepted, naturally. I get compliments such as: "Hey, I couldn't lose you in the very twisty section."; and, "Your 1.9 seems to keep up without requiring undue effort.". Of course, I get the occaisional cryptic comment: "You're pretty quick (AutoX lap times) for an 1.9." Hmm. I dunno, somehow, I gotta bite my tongue when I hear that one. Eventhough, I'm absolutely sure that it was meant as a genuinely sincere gesture.

Shawn, have you had any similar experiences?

bmv,

: "I've gotten similar comments from fellow (2.3) Z3'ers against my 1.9."

: Yeah, I've gotten the same... just goes to show how clueless some people are. Once moving, I've always been able to keep up with stock 2.8ls pretty well.. at least up till near triple digits speeds then they tended to walk away from me.

: Shawn
