I considered buying vs. modifying - and modifying was a very interesting alternative to buying a new car (saving $$$ and getting pretty hefty performance increases). Dinan and others offer substantial intake/engine/exhaust mods that will make the Z move DAMN fast and corner/handle very well. New brakes and tires also go a ways to adding performance. My initial idea was to get the Dinan Stage 3 performance suspension system along with the Stage 2 supercharger system for my M, but later I chose differently.

Since the 911 is in your market, and you still want the high end performance, the big consideration is if the two seater is still for you. There are a few 4 passenger high-performance vehicles out there (M5, E55, 911, M3, etc...) that are definitely worth a second look.
