Congratulations, and welcome to the club.
After looking at the possible alarms, and the expense/risk of installing an after market alarm, I actually decided on the BMW alarm (albeit a modified version of it) for mine. Granted, I was more interested in the keyless entry rather than the rather lame alarm features of the BMW alarm, the internal motion sensor added to mine gives a fair amount of protection (as much as can be expected in a convertible. I was able to get a good deal on a second hand system.
The problem came when I started looking for an after market alarm here in Sandy Eggo. Not only are the prices extremely inflated compared to what others in other areas will pay, but no one would guarentee not to screw up the electrical system.
Some of the features of the Autoloc system are attractive as it is supposedly plug compatible with the BMW harness - although others have had reported problems with installation (not that even the BMW alarm was an easy chore...but definatly a DIY job).
At any rate, email me (leave feedback on my site) when the new toy arrives and we can get together an I can show you some roads that will rock you Z3 world.
Check out my web site for information on my BMW alram installation and modification as well as a map of one of my favorite drives (HB-HG drive) if interested.

: I'm going to be picking up my new M Roadster this weekend!! After reading some of the posts on this board, I decided against the factory alarm. Although it sound pretty easy to install an after market system, I would feel more comfortable having one professionally installed. Can someone suggest an installer/brand to use. I live in San Diego.
