I just bought the 1.9 as I was also in the same boat. I wanted this really cool car, but couldn't afford one for the longest time. Yes, they are coming down in price, but most 1.9's are also coming off warranty. I bought a '96 from a BMW dealer, so I got the certified extended warranty (100k mile and 2 additional years). I wouldn't have considered buying one not under warranty. While the car is new in most respects, I have a healthy list of things for the dealer to fix when it goes in for an oil change.

As far as power, I drove an M coupe for a few days that I was babysitting for a friend before buying the 1.9. Unfortunately, driving any thing less makes the 1.9 seem powerless. From a stop light, I have to work at it to get up it up to a decent speed. But on the highway, it has no problem passing, etc.

I wish it was faster, but it was affordable and warrantied. And, well, it still looks real cool. I'll probably always keep it.

Check out www.latimes.com and search all Z3's in the country. It will give you a good idea of what they are going for, etc. I found mine at a dealership this way after months of searching for the right one.

Good luck.
