So did I!...Got one of the first ones - 4/19/84...Great car!

Be aware that it takes about 30K miles to really break in a BMW engine. My 1.9 now has 26K and it's just starting to loosen up and feel like a "real car". I understand the improvement continues well into the 30K's.

My '98 1.9 has 55K. My perception: 20-30K is when the most improvement occurs. Then, roughly speaking, @ ~40K & ~50K, thereafter...But to a lesser degree.

Why screw up a 500,000 mile engine.
