I'm flattered and all, since you tend to be one-directional here, but you probably should direct your opinion to Phillip. I was just comparing notes with another 1.9'er on a side aspect. You're right, tho...I should've mentioned to Cliff (also a former 325e owner) that no matter how much the M44 improves with use, it'll never be as good as a six. Then again, he probably already knew that.

Now, re your opinion "Don't buy 1.9" (has a nice ring to it, IMO), if Phillip is anywhere as young as you, I'd agree. Especially, since he's already owned an 318i (I test drove one before my 325e - they blow!), and he doesn't want to be disappointed with his dream car. The 1.9 fits my our purposes exactly! Evidently, Cliff's as well. We got what we wanted. I hope Phillip does too.

That reminds me. How much did you lose when you traded in your 1.9? I've asked before, but...
All I sensed was your being somewhat b-b-b-bitter about the BMW salestype selling you an 1.9, in the first place. Nonetheless, I'm you're happier with the 2.3 Z3.

BTW, your brother has an S2000? I thought he had an 911? Another brother, perhaps? It's been awhile so maybe I'm confused.

I owned the 1.9, and have currently moved into a 2.3. WOW! The 1.9 is slow, and does not handle "better". I tracked both cars and had considerably faster times in 2.3. Wider rear track makes torque slides loads of fun, whereas in the 1.9 it was imposible. Anyways the miata handles much better than the 1.9 z3, if you want less power go with that. The 1.9 was my dream car in high school, it was an impulse buy because i loved the looks, sadly enough i got tired of it because it was a slug on the road. Go with the 6 cylinder! There is a reason why BMW killed production in the US of the 4 banger. Essentially there is no performance difference in 2.5/2.8, so subtle that BMW is forced to up 2.8-->3.0 to make difference price worthy. My advice, having owned both, is get the 6 cylinder. I am able to keep up with my brothers s2000, sure he slowly pulls away top end, he would embaress me in the 1.9. GET THE 6!!!! NOT EVEN A HARD CHOICE REALLY
