I've owned several roadsters and personally, power is not a big deal in a roadster for me. In a sedan, yes! But all this talk about driving 100 miles per hour is BS. Where I live, you go to jail for that. Furthermore, the joy of a roadster is cruising along at reasonable speeds with the top down. At 85 there is so much wind and wind noise that frankly, I don't enjoy it much. Sure, short bursts to that speed are fun, then it's back to reasonable driving. To me it seems pointless to put a powerful engine into a less than absolutely rigid car--drive a 328IS or M3 and you'll see. If you like lots of power, fine. For me, there are canoes and skis and bikes and wilderness trips, and great restaurants and theatre: I'll spend my extra dollars on those things and drive my slow 1.9. When cruising along at highway speeds I'll never know the difference, and in the twisties I'll have a ball shifting which, after all, is what true roadsters are all about. I had an MG-A and TR-3 once and I never complained about the power--just the rain that got in.
