: My wife and I will be taking posession of a new 2000 Z2.3 Siena Red, tan top and seats, and CD player.
Congrats and welcome to the club!
Any advice would be appreciated as far as what should be the first things to do to the car e.g. special wax job or leather/top treatment. I do intend to ask the shop manager about the break-in oil, a few years back I remember using mobile-1 during the break-in would void the warranty.
I am assuming you will decline the $$$$ dealer "environmental prep" wax/detailing pkg. When the car is shipped, the spray the whole underside with a protective coating, something called Cosmolene. Unfortunately, alot of this greasy gunk strays to the kick panels where it needs to be removed before you can wax. Get a good quality body shampoo (I use P21s) and liberal use of Z-wipes (from Keith at Z3Solutions) should remove the yellowish stuff that has strayed onto the painted areas. Then use your wax (carnauba or acrylic) of choice. Unlike paints of yore, the paint and clearcoat on your Z3 does not need to "outgas" before your first wax job. I did mine immediately when I got home from the dealer.
As to oil, you will be getting synthetic in your new 2.3 and the official service interval is something like 15K. Personally, I plan to change out the oil at my own expense when I hit around 4-5K. Search the archives for lots of discussion on this topic.
