these have been around for years. My main complaint is that they create a more or less sealed chamber with the brake rotor backing plate. This will hold in heat, and not allow proper air flow over the rotor for cooling. If the brake dust really bothers you there are better ways to stop it. There are several types of brake pads that are almost dustless, PBR Metalmaster, and EBC, to name two. Normal disclaimer now, that this is just my opinion, and I'm sure that you will find others who love dust shields.
