Cops immediately suspect somebody who does what they see as an "exhibitionist" take-off like that (even though it may have been executed in a perfectly safe manner) could be drunk or on drugs. Especially if they do it with a cop around! He followed you for a short distance and saw that you were driving okay and didn't do anything else suspicious or erratic and kept your cool so he figured you were not a menace to society just a showoff.

That's all he wanted to ascertain and there's nothing more to it IMO. I had the same thing happen when flinging down a twisty rural road at around double the posted curve speeds. Came flying around one and there was a sheriff's deputy sitting there (no radar on, thankfully!) He followed me closely for a couple of miles as I drove like a saint, then turned off on another road.
