I have searched the archives to answer a few questions re: my first oil chng on my 00'M and seem to have developed more questions than I had when I started. I am at 2,000 mi. and feel I need to change it soon to remove breakin shavings. Any clarification would be appreciated.
1. What's with using natural oil for breakin before changing to synthetic? I'm not familiar with the need for a different breakin oil.
2.I am boggled by the lack of concensus among M'rs and dealers and the owners manual and BMWNA about what type of oil is in the darn thing. Does anybody really know?
3.I read several mentions of using a 36mm socket to remove the top of the filter housing on 2.8's. My filter housing has a 13mm bolt that appears to hold the top plate on. Is this different in M's or in later models?
4. does the filter housing top plate simply come off after removing this bolt or does it screw off also somehow? Do you need to tap it off from underneath.
