I also have a 2K MZ3 with about 2,500 miles on it. So far I have used about 1qt. per 1,000 miles. My dealer suggested to wait until the oil consumtion stops before switching to synthetic, which should be by 5K. My current plan is to change my oil now with standard oil and hopefully switch to synthetic at 5K. My understanding is that BMW has a deal with Casteroil, so all new cars and BMW brand oil should be based on that brand. I think up until that change BMW was using Valvoline oils (at least for thier synthetic). If anyone out there knows the facts on this, please update.

Any comments from other MZ3 owners on oil consumption rates?
