I think I'm probably the only one with the most problem with my batteries on this board. I first got my car back in April of 99, after two weeks in the garage since I picked up the car, the battery was dead. I figure it was because of that fact that I was playing with the radio and the power seats without running the car at all. I recharged the battery, and in about a week of sitting in the garage, the battery was dead again, but this time it won't take any charge at all. Dealer replaced it with another battery from their demo Z3, but in a week, same thing happened again; it won't charge. Dealer and I agreed there was a batch of defective batteries out there, so he ordered a brand new one. Then one day I forgot to turn the domelight off for two nights, that drained the battery, so I jump started with one of those portable battery jumper I bought, drove it for a few miles and everything seemed okay then. Last week, I left the car in the garage for 48 hrs, when I went to start it, the battery was dead again. Now I just try to drive it at least for a few miles everyday, and whenever I intend not to drive it for more than 2 days, I hook it up to a battery tender/float charger. The service manager told me not to just run the engine without actually driving it around, because that would actually use more juice from the battery. He also told me that the heater for the windshield washer nozzle automatically kicks in if the temperature drops below 35, even without the key in the ignition. In any case, I still think there's a short somewhere on the car, so I'm going to bring it up during my next scheduled maintenance. As for now, I either try to drive the car everyday or hook it up to the float charger. I also keep the portable battery jump starter in my trunk, just in case.
