Just a spark plug wire puller... and BMW gives you one. It is under the black panel that says BMW on your engine, near the back.

"Will the new new bosh plugs will work in a 98 1.9?"

The Platinum +4s work really well in the 1.9l. BMW recently added their own version of the +4s (made by NGK) to their parts catalog but they cost about twice what the Bosch plugs run.
