Z3 CCA to the rescue (more) (archive)

Wayne Lester, (yes, the evil Wayne :)) dyno'd his 2.8 with and without the air intake, then added the chip. The results were reported in the Z3 register (another reason to join). He got a measured improvement witht he air intake, but none with the chip. Now let the adaptation argument begin...

: Both Jim Conforti and Steve Dinan seem to be the guys with the best air intakes. But, when I look at the performance figures from them, it looks to me like an air intake does not do much performance wise. Neither shows dyno. results for the air intake alone. It is always bundled with their chip. When you compare the chip alone dyno numbers, with the chip and air intake dyno. numbers, it seems to me that the numbers are very close. There does not seem to be much gain from adding an intake over the chip alone.

I have detailed dyno. numbers from Steve Dinan that anyone can pick up by going to his shop. Again, the detailed numbers do not show a dyno. for the intake alone and do not show much of a gain for the intake plus chip over the chip alone.

: Am I missing something? Please tell me I'm wrong! I would love to have a few extra horses from an intake that really works.
