When we took delivery of our '98 528i, the content documents said it was assembled in Dingolfing, Germany. But the auto tranny was a GM unit built in France. I had to think hard about that one before I got over it. Actually, it's worked out fine. I imagine BMW keeps pretty close control of such things.
