: The task is not simple because the air bag is integrated with a passenger seat sensor and the seat belt. The sensor determines how much weight is in the seat and uses the info to tension the seat belt and to determine whether to fire the air bag in the event of front end collision.
: I had to drive down to Portland, OR to get the switch installed in my 2.8 since none of the Seattle area dealers would do the install.
: There is a part for the M, but BMW Engineering had to custom manufacture a replacement center console that included the cut-off switchfor my '98 2.8. Parts and labor (5 hours) cost approx $500. If you find the right dealer and push hard enough it can be done!
: Good Luck...

: : : Does anyone know if there is an easy way to disengage the passenger side airbag? I know there is a kit, but I would rather not let the dealer install it. Joe

: : I have not been able to find a dealer in the Seattle area that would install the factory disable switch. If you find a dealer or a way to DIY, please let me know.
Can you email me with the name of the dealer in Portland that you went to? I have relatives in Salem, so that is not too bad an excuse to go down there. Also, do you have any numbers/description of the custom item(s) you had BMW make for your 2.8? I have a '97 2.8. Thanks!
