: had that happen to my Z3 many times... if you go to the dealers, they may blame it on bad gas that you put in your car... don't fall for it... the reason is that there is something faulty with the gas meter or something and they did not have a fix for it at that time(in January 2000) They said they are working on a permanent fix and should be ready around April or May... So go to the dealers and tell them your problem... Maybe the permanent fix is in
: GOOD LUCK!!

My 00'M does the same thing everytime I fill up now. It started about 6 weeks ago after filling up at a particular station with a peculiar style nozzle. I have read about this problem here with many other people's gas gauges and someone always responds to not top off the tank. I first thought it was this particular type nozzle but it now happens at every fillup regardless of nozzle type ( and no I have never topped it off).

I also have the persistant(on this board) problem of the rocking seat when starting and stopping. I could not understand why people say that BMW has a fix for both problems (as common)yet BMW keeps knowingly putting the faulty parts(gas sensor and seat rails)in the cars with the knowledge that X% are going to fail and have to be replaced with the"fix". Why not install "the fix" in the first place. Now I atleast understand that they don't yet have a fix for the first problem.

Thanks for the elucidation.
