High Rev noise (archive)

While taken a short trip from Houston to Austin yesterday, I experienced a strange happening at least 3 times. It seems that my ///M revs up really high while only in 1st and 2nd gear, but the RPM is not high at all. Only the noise sounds high. This only happens while I'm sitting in traffic for a while though. After a few minutes of driving and shifting through the paces, the car does not do this again. Could this be the heat build up sitting in traffic? Is this transmission or engine noise? Engine temp needle is always at a little bit past the half way mark. Please HELP!!!!
