The Supra's power is mostly from the turbo. To get Viper killing power, they run around 25 psi or 1.7 bar. So an NA version of the 3.0L puts out around 220 hp multiplied by ( 1.7 boost + 1.0 standard atmosphere) = 594 hp. There are some other factors but the turbo is the thing.

I don't think that the imports have better blocks but just better internals....rods, pistons, crank. Although the Corvette/Camaro's 5.7's will hold up to 400-500 hp on stock internals. And most supras running 25 psi are running close to the limit of their stock internals.
