: It's an old saying..... basically the bigger the pot, the more air/fuel you can cram in; the bigger the explosion. There are many variables,as you note in your question, but quite simply a larger motor has more volume so it can generate more power. Or, as Andy Granatelli said, "There's no substitute for cubic dollars."
