Seriously, after all the discussion about the new sub, curiosity got the best of me.
What I found was a single 6.5 inch dual voice coil driver rated at 70 watts per channel, at 4 Ohms in an acoustic suspension (sealed box) enclosure. It features a paper cone and a foam surround. Sounds really nice, and I've yet to hear distortion.
Here's the box all snug in it's nest...

So, I yanked the thing out. Here it is in my sport seat, to give y'all an idea of it's size.

Of course, minor disassembly is never enough for me. And, I certianly wanted to bring y'all the whole story. So, I ripped the driver out of the box. "Holy superstructures, Batman! That's a HUGE magnet you have there!" :o)

Like any good Hi-Fi company, HK stuffs the box with....stuff. I think this is supposed to slow down the sound waves to increase the effective size of the enclosure. Notice that it has wings. They extend into the protrusions on the front of the box.

Here's the imprint wiht the part number, ratings and all that stuff...

And a picture of the inside of the enclosure. Notice the internal bracing to reduce resonance. This is why I love having a really small digicam. I actually stuck the entire camera inside the box to snap this pic.

And finally, I scattered the bits and pieces out on the ground to show the whole package and the sizes of everything.

I personally can't figure out why BMW ever put the snuffleupagus thing in there. The new "sub" has better bass extention, and is quite a bit more accurate. Not perfect, but plenty good enough for me.
Y'all enjoy!
