I HAVE DONE IT....(more) (archive)

I HAVE TAMED THE DRAGON. What can I say but the ride was OUTSTANDING, it just simply KICKED ASS!!! For the people who have not heard of Deal�s Gap, the Gap or The Dragon is located on Hwy 129 & Hwy 28 at the TN & NC border. The road parallels a river/dam for 11-miles. For those 11-miles, there are 315 twisty turns, NOT INCLUDING the ones to reach the Gap!!!!!
I took off on Friday morning (9am) and reached the Gap in 4.5 hrs - - all highways and top down motoring. But, by the time I reached the Official Deal�s Gap gas station and gift shop, �Crossroads of Time� (COT), it was raining =:(
So I hung with the group of motorcyclists that were also waiting for the rain to end. While we were waiting we talked about their bikes, my car and where they came from (WI, TN, NC, GA, & MI).
To make a long story short, I drove the Gap that day (slow of course) to get a feeling of what I will be experiencing, once the rain stopped. That Saturday, it stopped and the top came down =:) What can I say but WOW, I highly recommend the trip to the Gap to really tryout your Z3. There was only one scary moment on the Gap, it was when I was going around a RHD blind turn (180 degree) and a SEMI-TRUCK was coming around from the opposite side, he was over the centerline, enough to say that I LOVE my ABS & DSC. The total number of times I drove back & forth through the Gap was (2) on Friday and (4) times on Saturday, Sunday I took the day off to drive home.
During my time there, I took in the local sites and towns (Smokie Mtn Park has a cool drive, at the upper elevations of the park's roadway there was snow and ice and I got to see a black bear and her cub - - way COOL!!!). The place I crashed was the Fontana Village (NC).

During my trip at the Gap I only saw two other Z3s, one was on Saturday, it was black (top down) on Hwy 28, heading away from Fontana Village. The other time (it might be the same car) was Sunday, it was black with a tan top? On Hwy 74, heading away from Bryson City, NC. If that person reads this, I just want to say hello.

If anyone is interested the Gap has a website (www.dealsgap.com), which has places to sleep, maps, food and other interesting sites.

This coming week, I am installing the Dinan Stage II suspension system, once installed I will head back out to Deal�s Gap for a quick weekend reunion to see how my Z handles the Dragon. Once I have accomplished that objective, I will post an update on the MB.
