I've had nothing but good luck with JL Audio drivers. I tried to come up with some way of fitting an 8w1 in the factory location but there just isn't enough room for even the smallest possible box. I had hoped to get a 6w1 in something similar to the new sub box in by now but other priorities keep interfering with my progress:(

Your only options are footwell or trunk. Several here have posted trunk subs but remember that the trunk is isolated so you will need to do some porting into the cabin.

A footwell sub can produce the same sound with less space/power but its disadvantage is obvious.

Neither interest me now. When I bought the car, I was certain that I would install a sub box in the trunk. Now that I've had it for a year, I value the limited trunk space far too much for that.

I'll gladly forgo 25-40Hz for legroom and trunk space. This, coupled with the high road and wind noise of a Z3 makes me conclude that achieving really deep bass impractical. I'm happy just improving 40-20k and leaving the really deep stuff to the A/V room where it's easier to reproduce.

Just my opinion.
