Zaino vs Meguiar's Gold Class Observations (archive)

Recently I've read all the discussion on what's the best wax/polish so I decided to try both Meguiar's and Zaino (but not on the same car). The test subjects were my Y2K MZ3 (Cosmos Black) and my '98 Nissan Frontier (High gloss black). So it's a black vs black test although one is a metallic black. The three areas that I was most interested in was 1)Ease of use, 2)Appearance, and 3)Durability/Protection. Well, on ease of use the Meguiar's wins. Both are easy on but the Zaino required more buffing to get the streaks out. Zaino also took longer to dry. I applied Zaino's Z8 Gloss Enhancer after each application. The MZ3 went through a thorough wash, claying, polish lock, one coat of Z5 (polish and swirl remover) and two coats of Z2 (high gloss polish). Between each coat of polish I applied (as per Zaino's instructions) the Z8 polish enhancer. These steps were accomplished over a three week period. The truck received two coats of Meguiar's Gold Class (one weekend). Much less time and effort was reguired for the truck vs the MZ3. So, how do they look? Honestly, they both look great No difference as far as I can tell. So, Meguiars' wins on ease of application and they tie on appearance. Durability and protection rating will have to wait but even then it won't be a fair test. The truck is out in the elements all the time while the MZ3 is garaged unless it's in use. Maybe someone else can comment on how long the finish lasts with these two products but if they last the same length of time then for me Meguiar's would win overall. I don't plan on changing over the MZ3 at this point (my polishing arm is tired) but I thought I just post my observations just in case anyone out there was interested.
