knicks fan...

Drove end of winter '99, and all of this last winter, in Iowa winter weather (daily driver) with stock Michelins mounted...no snow tires.

NO problems, as long as you aren't too skittish about the back end sliding around a bit. You sit almost over the rear axle, and it certainly magnifies all the tail end movements.

My own experience -- FWIW -- is that on fully snowpacked or icy roads, I turn the traction control OFF. Since it activates the brake to the wheel losing traction, if both are on slippery ice or snow, result is eventually stalling the car. I found that I would rather battle the wheel spin in the conventional way...and the tires had enough traction so that it was never a problem.

Others say that with good snow tires, the car is almost a normal drive in the winter. Course, most others in winter weather states park their cars for those months, but for those of us who don't, traction seems to be one of the least of the winter problems.
