I'm going to buy a 2.3 on Tuesday. I've never bought a car before in my life (all my previous cars were hand me downs from my parents), and I don't want to over pay.
The BMW dealer I'm looking at says his price is $1600 over the dealer's invoice. The other dealers in my area won't quote a price over the phone.
Consumer Reports (and a few other places on the net {carpoint...}) state that you should NEVER pay more then $200 over the dealer's invoice.
I guess most of the $200 goes straight to the sales person (i.e., their wage for selling the car).
I've also read on the net that certain car dealers don't haggle (BMW, Mer., Por...).
In short:
1) Is $1600 over dealer's invoice to high?
2) Is $200 over dealer's invoice realistic?
3) Has anybody used priceline to get their car?
4) Do BMW dealers haggle?
5) Any advice for a car buying virgin?
General info: I live in Maryland. I am dealing with the BMW dealer in Rockville. I have already gotten a loan thru my credit union.
Thanks for your help,
-Nick
