so I do all my own routine maintance, therefor the need for the reset tool. BMW will only cover maintance services when the lights say to. This was not to my liking. So when my Z was under warranty I had them do the services when the lights came on, but I changed the oil myself in-between.

: Why do you need a reset tool? Do you no longer take it to the dealership for oil services or just in between lights?

: It is my understanding all of my services are covered until 3years/36 K miles. Should I just ignore these services and do it myself. Am I doing damage to my car to let the oil service be dictated by the service lights?

: Thanks again for the info

: : I change oil every 5000 miles with synthetic. I don't wait for the lights to cycle out, which usually takes 9k + miles. These lights also keep track of the other services. I do my own oil changes with the aid of a Top Sider pump and a Peak light reset tool.

: : : I just purchased a 1998 Z3 from a local dealer (not BMW)and I was wondering when I should change the oil. The car has 13,000 miles. I was told that the car will "tell" me when to change it (the little green bars - of which I have three left). Or does that inform me of an oil service which entails more than just a change. The last thing I want to do is make an improper assumption about oil changes. Thanks in advance.
