I decided to give my car a quick wash today, despite the chance of rain and overall icky weather we've been experiencing in CT. When I was finished drying the car I noticed that the hood was COVERED in what I can only refer to as "stuff." I believe that much of it was bug remnants (a la Merritt Parkway) with a twist of wax residue. I thoroughly cleansed, polished and waxed my car about two weeks ago, so I'm a little surprised that the wax is clumping up as it appears to be. Nevertheless, I attempted to attack part of the hood with a little HD Cleanse, polish and wax to see the result, but its proving extremely difficult to remove the bugs' remains. In general, I avoid using polish or any other harsh cleaners on the paint, but I'm not sure how to proceed with this minor canundrum.
Any suggestions? For some reason I recall someone on the message board suggesting dish detergent to strip the paint of wax and contaminants. I'm fearful of going ahead with this since method, however, since I've always (for 27yrs) been told that detergent is harmful for the paint.
Thanks in advance everyone
-Eric
