: Ok...I have found out a couple of secrets on the BMW radio/cd/cass player that are not mentioned at all in the manual...Here they are:
(1)Turn off the radio. Turn it back on. Hold down "m" button for 10 seconds or wait for BMW serial code to appear on the radio screen. Then, by scrolling left or right, you go through 4 different features. I only know one of them. When you reach the one that says "GTS- (a and a number 1-6)" (I'm pretty sure those are the letters) you press a number 1 through 6 on the radio presets/cd selector and this controls the HK speed volume control. The lower the number, the less change in volume when you reach high/low speeds, and the higher the numbre, the greater the change in volume when reaching high/low speeds. For those of you who don't know, when you go faster, the radio automatically increases volume and when you slow down, it brings the volume down, or back to the initial level.
(2)Hold down the "SCAN" button and wait until RDM shows up on screen. You have just put the radio in random play mode. This randomly chooses a track and cd from the ones you have loaded.
If anyone knows anymore, please let me know and explain how to use it!! Thanks!
The following is a post from May 1999:
I found these codes on the radio disply while in the programming/service mode.
SN W0920957
SV 03-98 40
DSP 0 V ##(DSP always at 0, V is adjustable with volume knob)
TP-V(adjustable -9 to +9)
AF (off/man)
AREA (USA/CANADA/EUROPE)
###########(actual blank display-adjustable w/4 modes)
I assume "SN" is the serial number of the radio itself.
Don't know what "SV" stands for.
"DSP" probably means Dolby Surround, or Digital Signal Protocal, which probably doesn't apply to my system. "V" is the current volume setting.
AREA referring to the area which the radio's PTY and RSD feature will work
GAL is the speed sensitive volume control
TP-V is probably the volume discrepancy relative to the volume of the radio when you pop in a tape.
AF.....well, I know it doesn't stand for Auto Focus
