A number of folks have had the 'carpet cut' treatment, and apparently that is a normal procedure. Since you had that done, I hope it was necessary.

My car was in last Wednesday for a couple of minor service issues, and of course the service department accessed the list of recall notices appropriate to my car. There were three, and one involved a DME reprogramming, to specifically address the problem you described. My gauge, so far, is working perfectly now. I hope that your service department did not overlook this recall notice, and the gas gauge software update. You might ask them about it, though it would be sort of after the fact, I guess.

And, in fairness, it is possible that the reprogramming may have been model-specific, and not applicable to your car.
