Air Con/Recirculate buttons on 2000 MZ3 (archive)

Does the air con. and recirculate buttons on the MZ3 light up when the headlights are turned on? Mine don't seem to light up until you push either the air con. or the recirculate button. I find it hard to believe that the entire dashboard lights up when you have the head lights on except for these two buttons. The dealer claims that they don't and showed me a 2000 M coupe with the same scenario, but I seem to recall that mine use to light up...
