Mine is not a ///M, but a 2.3, 1999 model. I had that problem the first few months after I got the car, whether I top off or not. Then the problem went away, even when I top off the tank(which I always do now). Just couple weeks ago, the problem came back, but my last fill up(this past weekend), I top off, but had no problem. The problem is sporadic, so I just live with it. I also use my tripometer to gauge my gas consumption.
