I need to do more tests about shakiness, but my preliminary test from an autocross school 2 days ago is satisfactory. With the widest angle setting, you can see most of the car and have a good view of the road ahead. I really think that a video camera with image stabilization will be useful in this situation. Anyway, my solution is pretty barebones and involves only off-the-shelf parts like the Bogen superclamp and head.
As I said, I saw other clamps at the photo store that have a complete ring like structure that can clamp around the rollhoop. This might be a better solution if you want to mount on the rollbar since you can mount the camera higher up and have it point down, towards the driver since you will mount it on the passenger side. This would provide an even better view of the tach and speedo.
Basically, I think it's worth spending some time at a good photography store that carries lighting equipment since they will have these types of clamps and studs, and you won't have to engineer a custom solution.

: I have been real interested in this subject. I saw a mount built especially for a Miata that mounted at the top center of the windshield (top down). The resulting video from this mount did not show a whole lot of the car...I am real interested in a mount that will not shake around while driving aggressively and at the same time, get as much of the car and road ahead as possible. Does your solution provide this?
