: Picked up a nice divot from a rock strike right below the rear view about 40 days after taking delivery. Grrr.

: Apparently, if you live in the Commonwealth o' Massachussetts, your insurance covers the entire cost of a new windshield (no deductible). Elsewhere in these here United States, you're on your own for the deductible portion of the bill. Ick.

: On the bright side, the chip in our Z3s windshield has not spread in almost a year. A very small chip in our 98 Accord's winshield is now a growing line that will soon reach the center of the passenger seat. There $250 I could have used for something else...

: : If you look on even Z3s with low mileage you can see small chips in th windshield. I noticed this while using rain-x on the glass.

If the chip is small enough that it can be covered with a U.S. Quarter, chances are quite good that it can be repaired invisibly.
Many Insurance companies will pay for this with no deductible, since it's considerably cheaper for them than what's left after the deductible.

I've had this done once on the Z3 and several times on my wife's car. The results are quite good.
