I'd recommend searching this board for information on the fuel gauge problem. There are lots of posts on this topic.

I've experienced the same problem. Took it in for a fix and the problem came back. The fuel gauge will do the hula for about 30 miles, then it should function normally.

NOTE: Replacing the fuel sending unit involves CUTTING THE CARPET behind the passenger's seat. It's the only way they can get to it without dropping the fuel tank out the bottom.

If I were to do it again, I'd wait until BMW had a real fix for the problem before I let them "fix" my car.
